“Belonging Is the Beginning”
“I am glad to be a part of [this community] because I am choosing to be an advocate for those who were, or currently are, in the same situation as me. I want to bring issues that often go unnoticed or ignored into the light, so the system does not become more traumatic than it already is compared to being back home.
Through [this community], I have been able to meet many amazing people and be part of something bigger than myself. Being involved has taught me more deeply about issues I was previously only vaguely aware of, including challenges surrounding Pell Grant funding. I am grateful to be surrounded by people who genuinely care about youth in the system and emancipated youth. There are many issues people choose to turn away from, and I am proud to be one of the voices that stays loud until we are heard”.
